As I sit here watching Game 5 of the World Series, hoping the Rangers win to continue the series, I find myself thinking of the games I have been to since moving here. I never thought I would jump on the bandwagon of a professional sports team as I have with the Rangers, I just couldn't help it. They are a fun team to watch and each player has a unique story. We went to game 1 of the Yankees series in September. The game was dragging along and in the 8th inning (which was something like 4 hours after the first pitch) with the Rangers behind we decided to leave. As we were walking in the concourse, Cruz hit a game-tying homerun. (I should point out that David was not too pleased by leaving early). We continued home 30 minutes later to find the game still going and in the 11th inning. Finally in the 13th inning and 5 hours later, the Rangers hit a game-winning homerun. It was only the beginning of the Rangers sweep of the Yankees. The next game we went to see was the last game of the regular season which was also the fan appreciation game. Even-though they ended up losing the game, the fans were treated to tons of freebies with a lucky few getting game used jerseys from the players. Now that I have bored you to death with these two games and telling you nothing that you don't already know or could look up on the internet, we are on to the postseason. We went to see the first home game of the ALDS series against Tampa Bay. It was the first postseason game I had ever been to and the first time I had seen the Ballpark at near capacity.
First time the ALCS logo has been at the Ballpark. |
Next up...The World Series!!! The metroplex is all abuzz with the Rangers playing in late October and with the Cowboys floundering, the Rangers were giving sports fans something to cheer about. After game 2 of the ALCS, tickets for the world series went on sale the following day, Sunday, at 9:00. We had our phones and computers ready for the chance to get tickets through the Rangers. At 8:45 we were placed in the virtual waiting room and by 9:00 we were on three phones trying to get in. Every time we called we kept getting a busy signal, no one could get through. By 9:45, we found out that only single tickets were available for games 3 & 4. We gave up and decided we would try Stubhub once the Rangers were in. On a whim, about 30 minutes later, David's sister decided to call just to see if she could get through. Sure enough she did and we were able to get 8 standing room only tickets! We were going to the World Series! The only thing the Rangers had to do was beat the Yankees!
The only World Series game won by the Rangers...
A few signs fans brought to the game that I couldn't resist sharing!
One last picture with the Championship banner....
Being able to go to the World Series was an unbelievable experience! The atmosphere in the ballpark was electric and the Rangers ended up with a win. I hope it's not another 50 years before the Rangers are back in the World Series but more like 50 weeks! The Rangers gave their fans a memorable season that they won't soon forget. Can't wait too see what next season brings!
In closing I would just like to say....
Way To GO Rangers!!!!
Clap...Clap...Clap, Clap, Clap!!!!
